Geneva International Airport which was formerly known as Cointrin Airport is the major international airport of Geneva in Switzerland. The airport is located 2.5 miles north- west of the city centres. In December 2015, the airport reached its maximum number of passengers, numbering approximately to 15 million passengers. The Geneva International Airport is the hub for Swiss International Air Lines, Etihad Regional and easyJet Switzerland. That is why the airport is a smart choice for many passengers as it is suitable for many routes.

The airport has its northern limits running along the Swiss and French border which makes is accessible from both countries. The cargo operations can also be utilized from both France and Switzerland. That is why the airport is considered a European Union freight hub even though Switzerland is not an official member of the EU. The Geneva Airport is partially located within the commune of Le Grand Saconnex and partially Meyrin.

Geneva Airport has a single concrete runway which is also the longest one in Switzerland, and one of the major in Europe. Its huge dimensions allow aircrafts of all sizes to land and take off. Adjacent to this main runway a parallel runway, which is smaller in size, is available for light aircrafts.
